Virtual Physiotherapy (Tele-rehab)

  • What is a Virtual Session?
These private appointments are held online for your convinience where-ever you may be in the world. It’s possible via live video (such as Zoom.us, Skype, or Physitrack) where patients can be assessed, managed, and given treatment advice from your therapist.
  • What can I expect from a Virtual Session?
You can expect the same quality and level of care as any in-person physiotherapy services. - A complete history to provide an accurate diagnosis - Examination of ranges of motion and specific movements - Performing a functional movement examination - Evaluating strength - Prescribing exercises and stretches – with supporting photos/videos - Correcting exercise form with performance cues - Teaching self joint mobilization techniques - Teaching self-directed soft tissue treatment techniques - Providing a full rehab plan to follow in your own environment - Providing valuable insight on an injury or condition - Help train another person to assist you with your exercises or stretches Once you have booked a session you will be emailed instructions on how to use your unique virtual appointment link.
  • Can a Virtual Session treat everything?
Although there are many circumstances where a virtual session may be effective, this may not always be the case. If we are unable to appropriately treat your condition you will be referred to an appropriate alternative.
  • Is my online consultation secure or safe?
My intention is to protect the security and confidentiality of information by all reasonable means that are sent and received in your virtual appointment. At this time Zoom is the preferred platform. Zoom is a video conference platform that provides encryption and meeting access controls so data in transit cannot be intercepted. Zoom does not have access to identifiable health information and all audio, video, and screen sharing data is encrypted. If you wish to use an alternative platform to have your session please let us know at least 48 hours in advance via email at derrickshaophysio@gmail.com.
  • Does insurance cover my Virtual Session?
At this time in Canada, most if not all extended health benefits from insurance companies will cover virtual physiotherapy as a part of their usual physiotherapy benefits. Please confirm if your specific coverage with your extended health insurer includes physiotherapy. In Australia, starting from Tuesday 14 April 2020 health funds will provide coverage for teleconsultations provided by physiotherapists. Health fund members should check with their health fund to see if they will cover tele-physiotherapy consultations. Some funds may impose additional conditions.

Let's make sure things run smoothly.

Let someone know

Make sure someone is home or nearby to assist in case of an emergency situation.

smart clothing

Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows all areas that may need to be assessed to be clearly visible.

Use a Stable Surface

Place your computer or device on a flat surface. Make sure your area is well lit, and preferably indoors.
